General Hospital's Sonya Eddy Has Passed Away

General Hospital is sad to confirm the passing of General Hospital actress Sonya Eddy, who embodied her character the tough but compassionate, head nurse, Epiphany Johnson- and immediately became a fan favorite and beloved member of our GH family when she joined the show in 2006.

“I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible Sonya Eddy. I truly loved her not only as an actress, but as a friend. The lights in the hub of the nurses’ station will now be a little dimmer, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set.  On behalf of the entire GH cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and fans. She will be very missed.” shared Executive Producer Frank Valentini.

Editor's Note: I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet Sonya at a fan event years ago. She was Kathleen Gati's special guest for her General Hospital Fan Club event. At the time Liesl was the Chef of Staff at General Hospital much to Epiphany's chagrin. The ladies were hilarious! Sonya had just had some time off to to take care of her mother and was excited to be returning to the show. She told us about how when the actors were filming both GH and Night Shift they would sleep in their dressing rooms between filming the two different series and about how much she loved that Epiphany had a sex life on Night Shift. She told us about how when Epiphany went up on stage during the Nurses' Ball and smashed Mac's dummy Mr. Mables that Frank didn't tell the rest of the cast she was going to do that and she only had one take. She shared the story of filming the music video for No Doubt's Hey Baby and how much fun she had doing it. Sonya had a full career as an actress and truly loved being able to entertain. But most importantly she was humble, gracious and a very good person. She was loved and will be missed.
